  1. What type of insurance is required to haul RVs. Insurance companies tell me as long as the owner of the RV or boat has insurance, all is covered with the transport. The liability and truck is insured by transporter.

    What does cargo transport cover?

  2. Commercial insurance is different. Make sure your insurance company knows that you are being paid to transport.

You will need cargo insurance. That will cover the cargo that you are being paid to transport. However, you only need this if you have your own DOT number and are running under your own authority.

If you are leased on with a freight company then they should have the cargo insurance.

It appears that your insurance company was giving you advice for transporting an RV or boat without receiving any compensation. In that case, you are not operating in a commercial capacity and will not need DOT authority or cargo insurance - your insurance company is correct that the owners insurance can cover the RV or boat and your auto policy would cover the liability (at least to the extent of your state minimums).
